San Fernando Valley Boudoir Photography Session with the Beautiful G.!

Every person I photograph is completely different, which makes every Boudoir Photography Session completely different, and I love that.  My Boudoir Photography session with G. was such a joy!  Her smile is so pure, authentic and powerful, as you will see in her photographs.

She is a joyous woman, maybe a little reserved - she calls herself shy, so doing a Boudoir Photo Session was definitely stepping outside of her comfort zone.  It was important to make her feel as comfortable as possible, knowing that even the most confident person tends to be nervous going into a photo session.  Part of that starts with makeup.  I only work with makeup artists I trust, who are talented, kind, and positive.  Most of the time, it's my wife Linda Wasserman @mightycurly.

Linda and I make a great team together, both in life and while making art.  I trust her to bring out each client/model's own beauty and create a look that fits the personality of each client/model, all the while making them feel like a supermodel superstar.  It's a big part of the Boudoir experience, to be able to just sit and be pampered and feel beautiful!  She also stays with me the entire session, assisting me wherever needed, bringing water to the client/models, helping them with wardrobe, doing touch-ups as needed. etc.

It was wonderful to see the different sides of G. in her session.  We had a ton of fun together, with lots of laughs.  She competes in Roller Derby, so we definitely got some fun images with her skates, which I know was important to her.  Yes - Roller Derby Boudoir!

Take a look at her images and see what she had to say about her Boudoir Photography Session - her Roller Derby Boudoir Session!

How old were you at your session?

I was 25 or 26.

What made you decide to do a Boudoir session?

Generally, I'm shy.  Not out of lack of confidence in myself, that's just my personality.  But I am always looking for ways to challenge myself by stepping out of my comfort zone.  Not only would this be confronting that part of my personality, but confronting a fear of mine - getting my picture taken.  A true challenge that I was excited to face 🙂

What were you most nervous about for your session?

As far as the actual session, I wasn't nervous at all.  I was excited to express myself in a new way and step out of that box that I am comfortable in.  What I was really nervous about was seeing the photos. I am a confident person in most aspects of myself.  But I really don't like having my picture taken because I am almost never happy with the result.  My perception of myself is completely different than what I see in pictures, so I don't like taking them.  I was worried the same thing would happen when I saw the photos from the shoot.  I had no doubt that Cowen would take the time to take great photos, but whether or not they would reflect my perception of myself was a separate concern.

How did you feel after seeing your photos?

However, after seeing the photos, I felt...awesome.  The photos truly reflected my positive perceptions of myself.  And they really captured my personality.  You could still see that bit of shyness, confidence, goofiness and damn...I looked hot!!!  I really felt proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone to give something new a try.

What was your favorite part of the session?

It's so difficult to pick a favorite part because I had fun from the moment I got there.  From Linda doing my makeup, to the outfit changes, to Cowen making me laugh (and then capturing those great moments in the photos!)  If I HAD to pick a favorite part, it would be when I was taking photos with my skates.  Skating has been a huge part of my life since I was in elementary school and it was exciting to get to show off that part of myself.

What would you tell someone who’s interested in doing a Boudoir session of their own, but still not sure?

Do it for you!!!  You are a beautiful and strong person and you deserve to have fun showing that off!!!!

What was it like working with Cowen?

Cowen made this shoot comfortable and so much fun!  From the beginning, he made it clear that the shoot was whatever I made of it.  I could wear as much or as little as I wanted.  And he wanted to know what aspects of myself I wanted to showcase in the shoot.  And throughout the shoot he, and Linda, made sure I was comfortable.  The whole thing was a really enjoyable experience because of them.

Anything else you want to add?

Thank you thank you THANK YOU for this awesome experience that I will always remember and be proud of myself for doing.  And thank you for the photos that are a perfect reminder that I am a strong, beautiful woman!

Thank you again for the experience and I really hope that some day I can do another boudoir session with you!

-G.
